The big screen take on the Wicked musical won’t now start shooting until next summer it seems – but it does finally look like it’s edging forward.
Universal Pictures has long planned to bring the hit musical Wicked to the big screen, but it’s certainly taking a long time to get there.
It’s taken over 15 years even to get this far, and Stephen Daldry for a long time was attached to direct the movie. He’s departed in the last year or two, and there’s still not in place a completed screenplay to work from. Jon M Chu has since come in as the new director, and it does finally look as though the movie will be going before the cameras in 2022.
According to a new report, the film – that had been lining up to shoot in the US next March – will now be filming in the UK from next June. It’s set to be based at Elstree, and all signs now point towards a release at the end of 2023. Universal hasn’t confirmed this as of yet.
As we get casting news, we’ll let you know. More as we hear it…
