Following the speedy announcement of a prequel to X, a third film is now said to be in development, before the first one has even left cinemas.

Independent production outfit A24 may well have its first franchise under its belt.

X, the horror slasher which is currently in cinemas as we speak, has been doing pretty good business in America, with audiences warming to its tone, which is said to be somewhere between Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Boogie Nights. The retro-themed slasher opened up in fourth in the US box office and has found itself receiving critical admiration as well as selling tickets.

Only last week, director Ti West announced that a prequel for the film wasn’t just in the works, but that it had already been shot, a reveal that took everybody by surprise. A24 though, seem to want more from the series and is reportedly developing a third film in the series according to Deadline

A24 is fast making a name for itself in backing ‘smart slasher’ fare, with ‘Red Rocket, Lamb and Zola as well as The Witch, The Lighthouse, Uncut Gems and Ari Aster’s Hereditary and Midsommar all emerging from the studio in recent years. Nonetheless, it really seem to be throwing its weight behind this one and as long as positive reviews and audience numbers continue for X, it looks like we’ll be seeing more from the series for some time to come.

Might the threequel be called xXx? Someone should tell Vin…
