Ti West has announced that the upcoming period horror will be getting a prequel, and what’s more it’s already in the can.

Back in January, A24 launched the trailer for X, an upcoming period horror with an interesting twist. The film comes to us courtesy of The House of the Devil and The Innkeepers director, Ti West, and is set to launch on the 18th March. That’d be this coming Friday.

The film is set in the 1970s and really leans into the aesthetic of that era. Set in a lonely farmhouse in Texas, a small film crew arrives to make an adult film. However, their creepy hosts, a reclusive aged couple, don’t seem to respond well to the incursion.

Mia Goth, Scott Mescudi, Brittany Snow, Jenna Ortega, Martin Henderson, Owen Campbell and Stephen Ure feature in the film, which looks like its going to revel in the sort of trashy, exploitation stylings that ooze from this stylish-looking trailer. A24 and BRON Studios have co-produced the film and the theatrical release is said to contain exclusive prequel footage that won’t be featured on home formats.

That prequel footage could be key too, as Ti West has announced, following a strong reception at the film’s SXSW premiere, that a prequel has already been shot in secret also on location in New Zealand. The prequel is currently in post-production and sees Mia Goth reprising her role.

We’ve added the trailer below, keep an eye out for the film when it launches later this week.
