Tom Hardy is to take the lead in Shackleton.
Effortlessly floating between TV and film work, Tom Hardy has now set his sights on his next big screen job. He’s set to play the legendary explorer Ernest Shackleton in a film by the name of, well, Shackleton.
Ernest Shackleton is best known for leading expeditions to the Antarctic over a century ago. Notably, when his ship got stuck, he also led his crew for months to safe ground. His story was brought to the screen previously in a Channel 4 drama, where he was played by Kenneth Branagh.
Peter Straughan has penned the screenplay for the movie, and it’s being produced by Heyday Films and Hardy Son & Baker.
StudioCanal is backing the project too, and will likely distribute in the UK. There’s no word as of yet as to who will be directing the film, as it’s early days for the project thus far.
We’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
