The Tony Hawk videogame series is the subject of a new film, and worldwide distribution has now been secured as well.

The franchise may not be such a big deal now, but for many years, one of the biggest selling series of videogames was the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series. It ran from 1999 through to 2015, with 17 games in all. Tens of millions of copies were sold before the franchise petered out a little. But it remains something of a phenomenon.

So much so that the story of the series is being told in a brand new documentary feature. It goes by the name of Pretending I’m A Superman, a project that was brought to life in part through crowdfunding.  Furthermore, a premiere date has been announced by Tony Hawk himself on his social media account.

We now learn too that Wood Entertainment has picked up the global release rights for the movie. It recently backed the Quentin Tarantino documentary, QT8. No word yet on a release date, but we’ll pass on details when we get them.
