Robert Eggers’ highly-anticipated third film, a tale of viking revenge, will be with us in April: here’s the trailer for The Northman.

With two searingly good films behind him in the form of 2015’s The Witch and last year’s The Lighthouse, interest in Robert Egger’s next directorial project was always going to be elevated. That project, The Northman – a tenth century Viking revenge drama – is now only months away, with an April 22nd release date. And we finally get a glimpse at it.

The film takes place in Iceland in the early middle ages, and was co-written by Eggers alongside Icelandic novelist, Sjón Sigurdsson. Little else is known about the project so far, as details have been kept largely under wraps.

We do however know the cast and there is no shortage of talent wishing to collaborate with Eggers following the impact of his previous two films. Anya Taylor-Joy, Nicole Kidman, Alexander Skarsgard, Willem Dafoe, Ethan Hawke, Claes Bang, Kate Dickie, Ralph Ineson and singer-songwriter Bjork are in the ensemble.

The film will be released by Focus Features in the US with Universal handling distribution in the UK and internationally. The film looks visually beautiful too, and we couldn’t be much more excited for this one if we tried.

Be sure to check out the trailer below, ahead of the film’s release in April.
