A new trailer for upcoming Aretha Franklin biopic Respect, starring Jennifer Hudson, has been released.
The musical biopic trend shows no signs of slowing down, with our latest offering set to be Respect, a look back at the life and career of Aretha Franklin. Stepping up to the microphone is Jennifer Hudson who has already proven her musical and acting talent in both Cats and her breakthrough Oscar winning role in Dreamgirls.
The film was originally scheduled for a 2020 Christmas release perhaps eyeing potential awards season buzz, but will now release this summer, along with many other potential awards films. It seems set to be a season of music, with Respect, In The Heights, Dear Evan Hansen and West Side Story all due out over the next 7 months. Will we see Hudson and Respect on future awards ballots? If the trailer is anything to go by, I’d start placing your bets now.
Respect is released in August in the United States, and the 10th September in the UK.
