Upcoming 9/11-focused courtroom drama The Mauritanian has an early 2021 release date confirmed – and here’s the first trailer.

A trailer has been launched for STX Film’s upcoming release, The Mauritanian.

The film, starring  Jodie Foster, Tahar Rahim, Zachary Levi, Saamer Usmani, Shailene Woodley, and Benedict Cumberbatch, has been moved up to a late February release slot, presumably to allow it into the extended time-slot for Oscars contention.

Based on a true story and set in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attack on New York City, the film focuses on Mohamedou Ould Slahi, an inmate at the American prison Guantanamo Bay, and thought to be responsible for recruiting the terrorists that carried out the atrocity. When two American lawyers choose to begin fighting his cause, their choice to defend him begins to unfold a deep and far-reaching conspiracy.

The Mauritian is directed by Kevin Macdonald, who has previously helmed The Last King Of Scotland and Touching The Void. You can check out the trailer, in advance of the film’s release, right here.
