It looks like we get Romeo & Juliet with guns – lots of guns – in the upcoming Die In A Gunfight.

A former Black List script that has endured a decade of development hell is finally emerging into the world next month… and if you’re a fan of Romeo & Juliet and action movies, well, this may well be the perfect mash-up of those two interests.

Die In A Gunfight releases on July 16th in cinemas and on digital home release in the US, although no UK release date has yet been confirmed. Lionsgate has acquired the North American distribution rights.

The synopsis reads: ‘The film centres on two rival families, the Rathcarts and Gibbons. Ben, a rebel young man, falls in love with Mary, the daughter of his father’s enemy, starting a battle full of love, lust, revenge and betrayal.’

The film, which was originally mounted as a Zack Efron project back in 2010, has a fun cast, including Diego Boneta, Alexandra Daddario and Travis Fimmel. Its director, Colin Schiffli (Animals) had this to say about the film.

“I’ve always been drawn to stories about star-crossed lovers… Gunfight was written with ‘larger than life’ flair and attitude. My previous two movies were very grounded, gritty movies about love and felt I was ready to now explore it in a new light — amid a backdrop that was colourful, stylized and felt self-aware. Our hero characters aren’t experiencing a first-time romance, they are trying to reignite old flames and find their place within Gunfight’s grandiose world. I think that gives it a modern edge. It’s a heartfelt nod to cinematic action romances and we hope that moviegoers are taken aback by the bold performances, flashy visuals and playful story. Let’s have fun watching movies again!”

We’d imagine that the film will drop in July in the UK too, but that is yet to be confirmed. The trailer is below for you to check out…
