The writer of Raging Bull and Taxi Driver continues his directorial career with revenge thriller The Card Counter – and here’s the trailer.

Paul Schrader is best known for being one of the most legendary screenwriters of the 1970s and 1980s, most notably for his collaborations with Martin Scorsese, including Taxi Driver, Raging Bull and The Last Temptation of Christ. Having helmed American Gigolo, Affliction and 2017’s First Reformed, Schrader continues to develop his own directorial filmography too. Now, the filmmaker is back with The Card Counter, a revenge thriller that is launching – in the US at least – this very month.

As for a UK release date, we’re expecting to see the film land in November via Universal. In the meantime, you can catch the trailer for the movie below, and  it certainly captures the intensity that you’d expect from a full-blooded filmmaker like Schrader.

We’ll leave you with the film’s official synopsis:

Redemption is the long game in Paul Schrader’s The Card Counter. Told with Schrader’s trademark cinematic intensity, the revenge thriller tells the story of an ex-military interrogator turned gambler haunted by the ghosts of his past decisions, and features riveting performances from stars Oscar Isaac, Tiffany Haddish, Tye Sheridan and Willem Dafoe.
