Crimes Of The Future will launch at Cannes and see David Cronenberg return to the genre that he helped to popularise.

Neon has released the trailer for David Cronenberg’s next film, Crimes Of The Future. The film is set to launch next month and stars Kristen Stewart, Viggo Mortensen and Lea Seydoux.

Not only does it look suitably strange in a very David Cronenberg way, it also marks the director’s return to body horror, a genre with which he is synonymous following cult films from the 1970s and 1980s such as The Fly and Shivers. Cronenberg actually wrote the film back in this period and has returned to the script decades later, as he was never able to get it made at the time.

The  film is ‘set in the near future, the human species is adapting to a synthetic environment and the body undergoes new transformations and mutations. With his partner Caprice (Lea Seydoux), celebrity performance artist Saul Tenser (Viggo Mortensen) publicly showcases the metamorphosis of his organs in avant-garde performances.’

Crimes Of The Future is set to make its world premiere at Cannes and will appear on general release in June, although no UK release details have yet emerged. We’ll keep you posted when we hear more details about the film’s release. In the meantime, you can check out the trailer below.
