It’s arriving a year later than planned, and here is the brand new trailer for Steven Spielberg’s next film, his remake of West Side Story.

The first trailer for Steven Spielberg’s next film, an adaptation of the classic Broadway musical West Side Story, was released last night during the Oscars telecast. As you’d expect from a film by Spielberg, the film – which is set to release in December – looks visually incredible and it looks like the reported $100m budget can be seen upon the screen, from lavish set pieces to wonderful sets and costumes.

Spielberg, who has stated that the original soundtrack to the Broadway play was the first piece of popular music ever allowed into his home, has kept the original musical numbers within the film. What perhaps is surprising is that the trailer showcases the film’s visual richness more that its musicality, although this is presumably the first of several trailers ahead of a December release date.

You can catch the trailer below, we’ll leave you with the film’s brief synopsis:

An adaptation of the 1957 musical, West Side Story explores forbidden love and the rivalry between the Jets and the Sharks, two teenage street gangs of different ethnic backgrounds.
