The upcoming thriller Emily The Criminal, starring Aubrey Plaza, received rave reviews at Sundance – you can catch your first look here.

Aubrey Plaza, star of the fantastic Ingrid Goes West and indie head-spinner, Black Bear continues to pop up in all sorts of interesting films. She recently hit our screens opposite  Micheal Caine in the drama flick, Best Sellers, and will also be taking on The Stath in Guy Ritchie’s next action movie, Operation Fortune: Nomme de Guerre, although that one has been pulled from the schedules, as things stand.

Plaza is also revisiting her indie roots once again with the upcoming Emily The Criminal. The film follows Plaza’s title character, who is ‘saddled with student debt and locked out of the job market due to a minor criminal record. Desperate for income, she takes a shady gig as a ‘dummy shopper,’ buying goods with stolen credit cards supplied by charismatic middleman Youcef, played by Sons of Anarchy’s Theo Rossi.

John Patton Ford writes and directs for his feature-length debut. Plaza is in the midst of a noteworthy string of films and we’re keen to see if she can continue that run, especially since Emily the Criminal earned excellent reviews following its premiere at Sundance. We expect the film to surface sometime next month as it arrives in cinemas on August 12th in the US. In the meantime, here’s that trailer.
