Catch your first glimpse of Ben Wheatley’s eagerly-anticipated pandemic-set horror In The Earth right here.

Although Ben Wheatley may be flirting with big budget action fare at the moment, we do hope he’ll always return to his dark, indie horror roots. After leaving the big-budget Tomb Raider sequel he was set to make,  Wheatley is cuttingly developing the follow-up to 2018’s The Meg, entitled The Meg 2: The Trench.

But before we get that, Wheatley has returned to his touchstone style with In The Earth, a low-budget horror, set around a global pandemic. The film is due out later this year but we can now get our first glimpse as the trailer has been released.

In The Earth was secretly written and directed by Wheatley as the world endured the ongoing pandemic. The director’s intentions were to use the film to consider the ongoing effects of isolation and confinement, fine themes for a horror movie at any time, but especially right now.

The plot focuses on a world searching for a cure to a disastrous virus, and centres on a scientist and park scout who venture deep in the forest for a routine equipment run. Set to release on April 30th in the US and June 18th in the UK, the film features performances by Joel Fry, Reece Shearsmith and Hayley Squires.

We’re definitely excited for this one ahead of its release, but in the meantime, do be sure to check out the trailer below.
