Three time Oscar nominee Sylvester Stallone puts a new spin on a superhero story in Samaritan – here’s the first trailer.

Rocky Balboa once said that “it ain’t how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.” Judging by how hard the thugs in this new trailer get hit, it’s difficult to imagine them moving very far.

Samaritan aims to add a grittier, human touch to an otherwise well worn tale. The plot follows 13 year old Sam, who suspects that his neighbour, the gruff, bedraggled Mr Smith is actually the superhero Samaritan, who was reported dead after a vicious battle with his rival Nemesis 25 years previously. It isn’t spoiling things too much to reveal that Sam is correct, and he makes it his mission to coax Samaritan out of retirement to save a city ravaged by crime and on the brink of chaos.

Stallone produces as well as stars as the title character alongside Javon Walton as Sam. Completing the cast are Martin Starr, Moises Arias and Dascha Polanco.

Julias Avery, who previously helmed 2018’s Overlord, directs from a screenplay by Bragi F. Schut.

Samaritan will be released on Amazon Prime Video on 26th August. Watch the trailer below:
