Margot Robbie is set to headline one of two new Pirates Of The Caribbean films that Disney is now developing – more details here.

Whilst the last Pirates Of The Caribbean movie – Dead Men Tell No Tales in the US, Salazar’s Revenge here in the UK – wasn’t particularly well received, it did nonetheless make a fair amount of cash. As such, there’s no way Disney was giving up on the franchise. Quite the contrary, as it happens: two more films are on the way.

Neither will, it seems, involve Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, with it looking like that ship having sailed.

Instead, there’s first of all going to be a Pirates Of The Caribbean film with female protagonists, that Margot Robbie has now signed up to headline. It’ll work from a screenplay by Birds Of Prey scribe Christina Hodson, although no director has been hired for the project yet. This will be a story, though, simply set elsewhere in the Pirates Of The Caribbean universe.

Separately, a full reboot is on the way, that Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin working on that. He’s penning a script alongside Ted Elliott, who co-wrote the original Pirates Of The Caribbean movies.

No word yet on when to expect either of these movies, but we’ll keep you posted as we discover more.
