The Nicholas Hoult-led film about Dracula’s henchman, Renfield, will be released in cinemas on 14th April 2023.

Universal’s Renfield puts an interesting spin on the Dracula tale, focusing instead on the titular Henchman. Starring Nicholas Hoult as the unfulfilled Renfield and Nicolas Cage as the legendary vampire, the film now has a release date of 14th April 2023, Deadline reports. This will coincide with the release of the Adam Driver-led sci-fi film 65.

In this adaptation, Renfield is tired of being abused and taken for granted by his master. Ready to move on, he tries to figure out how to part ways with Dracula. Then, he meets and falls in love with a fiery traffic cop, played by Awkwafina. The story is set in the modern day and has been described as comedic. Chris McKay, who helmed Amazon’s The Tomorrow War, is directing. The Walking Dead's Robert Kirkman came up with the story, and Ryan Ridley (who’s written on comedy shows like Community and Rick And Morty) wrote the script.

Starring alongside Cage, Hoult, and Awkwafina are Ben Schwartz, Adrian Martinez, and Shohreh Aghdashloo. As for what characters they’ll be playing, we know that Awkwafina’s traffic cop will be called Rebecca Quincy and that Adrian Martinez will play her buddy and work colleague, Chris. Aghdashloo’s character is named Ella, and will be one of the city’s most feared crime lords.

Renfield will be released in cinemas on 14th April 2023.
