Vanilla Ice biopic edging ahead, Dave Franco to star

Dave Franco will be playing Vanilla Ice in a biopic of the rap star, although the project has hit a slight delay due to current circumstances.

The 90s rapper Vanilla Ice has already had a couple of brushes with cinema. There was the star project created just for him, Cool As Ice, that didn’t do a whole lot of business. And then there was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret Of The Ooze that did a bit better.

Now, though, Ice’s story is to become a biopic, with Dave Franco to take on the lead role. The film has been written by Chris Goodwin and Phillip Van, and is going by the title of To The Extreme. And Franco has given an update on the project.

He revealed that “we have been in development for a while but we are inching closer and closer to preproduction”, adding too that he’s been in touch with Vanilla Ice as he prepares for the role. Furthermore, the film The Disaster Artist – directed by James Franco of course – is going to be a tonal touchpoint.

The film has, understandably, been held up due to Covid-19, and filming will get underway once lockdown has eased.
