Vin Diesel to star in a new film based on popular toy Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots.

Leading toy company Mattel has selected another of their toys for the big-screen treatment, this time the blue and red fighting game, Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots. The movie is only in the initial stages but action star Vin Diesel has already signed on for the live-screen adaptation. The film will centre around Diesel’s character and his son who form an unlikely bond with an advanced war machine. The screenplay has been written by Ryan Engle (Rampage).

This isn’t the only big-screen adaptation on the cards for Mattel. A live-action Barbie film has been in the works for a number of years with an original release date of 2017. Many names such as Diablo Cody, Amy Schumer and Anne Hathaway have all been attached to the project, but most recently Margot Robbie has been attached to star in and co-produce, with Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach attached to write the script.

Alongside this, BAFTA winner Daniel Kaluuya as attached to an adaptation of Barney the Dinosaur and a heist comedy is in the works centred around card game Uno.

You can see Vin Diesel this summer in the upcoming Fast And Furious 9.
