Acting powerhouse Viola Davis is in talks to star in Amazon drama Two Butterflies – Yance Ford will direct.

Having most recently appeared in The Unforgivable and The Suicide Squad, Viola Davis is now in talks with Amazon to star in Two Butterflies. The original script is written by Evan Dodson, and Yance Ford will direct. Ford is best known for directing and producing the documentary Strong Island.

Two Butterflies tells the tale of two estranged sisters, parted by tragedy, who reunite when one sister requires treatment for Alzheimer’s. Davis’ production company, JuVee Productions, will produce the drama alongside Rainforest Entertainment.

Davis’ name being attached to the project will bring it a lot of attention. The actor has won an Oscar, Emmy and two Tony awards. She’s had many memorable performances, such as her leading roles in Steve McQueen’s Widows and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

Director Yance Ford has gained much acclaim for his 2017 documentary Strong Island, which focused on the murder of his brother, William. When he was killed, an all-white jury failed to convict his killer, who claimed self-defence. It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in 2018, and he is the first openly transgender man to be nominated for any Academy Award.

Viola Davis is also currently working on historical epic The Woman King and television drama The First Lady, in which she will play Michelle Obama. Perhaps Two Butterflies will be the latest in her list of upcoming projects. More news as we hear it.
