88 Vue multiplexes around the UK will be opening their doors from May 17th, as the UK prepares for the return of indoor cinemas.

Following similar announcements from Odeon and Cineworld, Vue Cinemas has now confirmed its reopening plans for its cinemas in the UK.

The chain will be reopening its British sites in line with the easing of lockdown restrictions. On May 17th therefore, when indoor cinemas are allowed to reopen, the company will be throwing open the doors of its 88 multiplexes.

As per this report at Screen, it’s been doing work on its cinemas too over the past year, with some sites now having self-order food and drink screens, bars added, new luxury seats installed and a brand-new cinema opening in Glasgow too.

It all means that pretty much every cinema chain around the UK is now back on board with opening on the 17th (although my local Empire is waiting until Friday 21st).

Fingers crossed this time cinemas are allowed to stay open. And, whisper it, it looks like reopening remains on track…
