According to reports, Disney are so happy with Wes Ball’s Planet Of The Apes script, a further franchise is already being explored.

Wes Ball has pulled out of Paramount’s planned adaptation of Harbinger, according to reports. The director of The Maze Runner has reportedly handed in his script for the next film in The Planet Of The Apes franchise and that project now seems to be his focus.

Whilst fans of the Valiant Comics series may be disappointed, Harbinger sounds like it’s still happening at Paramount. The studio has announced that Brittany Runs A Marathon director Paul Downs Colaizzo is set to take over the reins, although he’s rewriting the script so the wheels on that project may be temporarily slowing.

As for Ball, Disney – as you can read above – is reported to be so happy with his script for the next Apes film that it wants the director’s full focus on the project, with trilogy options being explored. Whilst we know very little about what Ball has in store for us with the next Apes film, reports have suggested the title will be The Kingdom Of The Planet of the Apes. Ball has already confirmed that the movie will continue the world created by Matt Reeves with his trilogy and add to “Caesar’s legacy.”

It’s pure speculation on our part but given how that trilogy ended and the potential title, perhaps we’ll see a world closer to the original 1960s and 70s films where the ape population has advanced, although a sweet (and unexplored) storytelling spot might be the space in between both sets of films. Either way, all seems to be progressing well so far and you can be sure we’ll let you know as we hear more.
