Oscar-winning actor William Hurt has died at the age of 71, his family has announced in a statement.

Some really sad news to wake up to: the actor William Hurt has died, it’s been announced. He was 71 years old, just a day away from his 72nd birthday.

Hurt had been battling cancer, and the horrible disease finally caught up with. He leaves behind a body of work that we’d suggest anybody would be proud of. An Oscar winner for Kiss Of The Spider Woman. His film credits covers work as diverse ass Broadcast News, Body Heat, The Incredible Hulk, Dark City, A.I. Artificial Intelligence, The Village and, most recently, Black Widow. He was hardly shabby on the television side of things either, his role in the recent series Humans very much coming to mind.

His son broke the news, writing “It is with great sadness that the Hurt family mourns the passing of William Hurt, beloved father and Oscar winning actor, on March 13, 2022, one week before his 72nd birthday. He died peacefully, among family, of natural causes. The family requests privacy at this time”.

Rest in peace, Mr Hurt. Our thoughts are very much with his family and friends.
