Gillian Anderson is set to star in White Bird: A Wonder Story – and more details of the project are right this way.

One of the best live action family movies of the last decade we’d argue is Wonder, based on the novel by R J Palacio. Starring Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson and Jacob Tremblay, the film isn’t one to lend itself to a sequel – but there is now something of a spin-off on the way.

White Bird: A Wonder Story is based on the graphic novel written by R J Palacio, that Mark Bomback has adapted into a screenplay. The film is to be directed by Marc Forster, with Gillian Anderson taking on the lead role.

It tells the story of a young Jewish girl hidden in France during World War II by a boy and his family. It’s a tale of a family facing ‘unimaginable’ choices, and filming was set to begin on the movie in March (and we assume it did). It’ll be shooting in the Czech Republic, and Lionsgate – that backed the original Wonder movie – is behind this one too.

UPDATE: The film has now popped up on the UK release schedules too. It’s going to be released – as per current plans – on Friday 16th September 2022.

More news on the movie as we hear it.
