X-Men: Patrick Stewart on an unlikely possible return

Patrick Stewart and Kevin Feige have had a long chat about a possible return for Patrick Stewart’s take on Professor X.

He’s been on promotional duties for the new Star Trek spin-off series Picard, and Patrick Stewart has teased that Trek isn’t the only of his franchises he might be in line for a return to.

He’s been chatting to Digital Spy, and dropped into conversation a potential return to the world of X-Men. Stewart played, of course, Charles Xavier from 2000’s X-Men to 2017’s Logan. And that would have seemed to be that.

Since he concluded that film, though, Disney has bought out Fox, and now the X-Men are heading towards the Marvel cinematic universe, under the stewardship of Kevin Feige. And Stewart, it turns out, has had a meeting with Feige. A return to X-Men may well be on the cards.

“I met with Kevin Feige a couple of months ago and we had long, long conversations”, Stewart said. “And there have been moves and suggestions, which include Charles Xavier”.

Naturally enough, we’re not finding out much more than that. Yet Stewart also suggested caution, revealing that he’s unlikely to be tempted back. That the story reached a natural end in Logan, and that felt like the right time to walk away.

Will he be tempted back anyway? Time will tell. Not least because we wait and see just what Marvel’s plans for the X-Men are…
