Filming this month, the new movie Gold looks set to hurl Zac Efron into all manner of unpleasant situations in a desperate bid for survival.

If you happen to be a fan of both Zac Efron and survival thrillers, this story presents rather good news for you. Efron is set to take the lead in the Australian production of Gold, which is planned to shoot this month. The movie will film on on location in the wilds of the Australian Outback, according to Deadline. Anthony Hayes will direct the film whilst also co-starring alongside Efron.

The story itself sounds appropriately suspenseful: two men wandering the outback stumble across the biggest gold nugget they’ve ever encountered. Whilst one man stays to protect their bounty, the other leaves to seek tools to excavate their prize. As time passes though, he begins to suspect that he may have been left to his fate. A hint, perhaps, of The Treasure Of The Sierra Madre here.

Whilst Australian domestic rights have been sorted, Altitude is looking to add international buyers to the film at its upcoming virtual market event.

Hayes has spoken about his hope for the project, stating “this is an exciting, gripping and timely tale about greed, humanity, who we are, what we’ve done to the world and where we are heading if we aren’t careful. To have Zac Efron as my main man on this film is an absolute gift and to see what he is creating already is like nothing we’ve seen from him before. I can’t wait to deliver this bold, visceral and cinematic film to audiences all around the world.”

More news on this one as we have it.
