When Michael B Jordan was offered Creed III to direct

According to producer Irwin Winkler, an offer was made to Creed star Michael B Jordan to direct the next film in the series.

It’s been out for a couple of months now, but I’ve finally got around to reading the memoir of movie producer and director Irwin Winkler. Entitled A Life In Movies: Stories From 50 Years In Hollywood, he wrote it around the point that production was wrapping on Creed II, and as is the way with the world of books, it’s now gone on sale this year, several months afterwards.

Since Creed II was released in November of 2018, it’s come to light that Michael B Jordan – who has taken the title role in the movies – is a candidate to direct a Creed III, should that happen.

As it turns out though, that offer went to him even before Creed II was out. In fact, quite feasibly some time before that.

Winkler explains things a little in the book, where he talked about offering Jordan the director’s chair for the next movie in the series. He reasoned that he’d made a similar offer to Sylvester Stallone after the success of the first Rocky movie, and that he wanted to do the same thing for Michael B Jordan.

“I promised Michael B Jordan that he’d get his chance to direct Creed III”, Winkler writes, 253 pages into the book. 19 pages later, he reiterates this. “Last year in a conversation with our Creed star Michael B. Jordan, I offered him the opportunity to not only star in, but also to direct Creed III”.

Now whether he’s talking when the book was written – 2018 – or published – 2019 – is unclear. But Jordan is clearly in the frame for the next movie should he choose to go behind the camera too. He’s previously said that he’s up for a return, although Sylvester Stallone appears to be more interested in Rocky 7 at the moment.

More as we hear it.
